The area around our day care centre near the Perth suburb of Baldivis was already safe, but it is about to get even safer. Baldivis is now part of a $400,000 grant by the Federal Government Safer Streets Program that went to Baldivis, Rockingham and Secret Harbour.
The grant in Baldivis is only a small part of a much larger effort to curtail violence and graffiti in various Perth suburbs. The city of Mandurah received $250,000 for improved lighting and CCTV. According to WA Senator Michaelia Cash, the Coalition Government has invested $590,000 to the areas in hopes of improving the security of many local communities. She feels that they are following through on their promise to address anti-social behaviour and crime on a community level.
According to Senator Cash, local residents should feel safe (in their communities) and the financial assistance provided can aid in the increase in CCTV infrastructure in key crime spots.
In Mandurah, most of the money will go toward increasing security on the Western Foreshore, in hopes that it will be safer for both tourists and local residents, while promoting a family-friendly environment.
Mandurah has created the Family Friendly Foreshore Project to address concerns about the Foreshore area, and they are working in close cooperation with police, city officials and local business owners.
