At every Cuddles Childcare Centre serving Perth suburbs such as Wattle Grove, we use the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF). We have been providing a standard of care that would be compliant with EYLF for many more years than EYLF has been in existence. Our motto is “Learning through Play” because we have known for a long time that children learn their best when they are engaged and “in the moment.”
EYLF: the Basics
EYLF mandates play-based learning at child care centres, not only in the Perth area but across Australia. The framework is designed for educators and parents to help children develop basic skills by participating in play-based programs that are in alignment with their interests, ideas, abilities and strengths. Australia has chosen the framework of belonging, being and becoming.
Belonging gives a child a good base for living a fulfilling life. The feeling of belonging is rooted in relationships based on their family, community, location and culture.
Being is about doing what children do best: staying in the moment. Remember what it was like to not worry about anything except what you were doing right then, in the moment? When children are playing, having fun and trying new things, it is easy for them to just “be.”
This is where development kicks in. Children learn faster in their first five years than at any time in their lives. Children are developing their sense of identity, which will be part of them for the rest of their lives.
Learning Through Play
At Cuddles Childcare Centres, our dedicated staff has a lot of experience in helping children learn through play. There are some individual activities and some group activities. Our carers know when to let children test their limits while keeping a watchful eye on them and providing a safe environment.
