If you are looking for child care in the Perth area, we have great news for you. You may be eligible for a Child Care Rebate from the Government.
The Child Care Rebate, unlike the Child Care Benefit, is not income tested. Many families who are not eligible for the Child Care Benefit are eligible for the Child Care Rebate.
The Child Care Rebate is designed to help families with the out of pocket costs for child care. It covers as much as 50% of your out of pocket costs and can pay up to $7,500 per year. You can have your Child Care Rebate paid to you fortnightly or it can be paid to your child care provider and they can reduce your fees. It can also go into your bank account quarterly or annually.
Those who are currently receiving a Child Care Rebate and would like to change how and when they are receiving it can do so by contacting the Department of Human Services.
If you receive the Child Care Benefit, that amount is taken into consideration when determining your out of pocket costs.
Eligibility Requirements
You and your partner, if you have one, must have work, study or training related commitments at some time during any week in which you are receiving a Child Care Rebate. Also, your child care provider must be approved by the Government. Either you or your partner has to be an Australian citizen, a permanent Australian resident or you must be exempt from these requirements.
If your children are less than seven years of age, they must have their immunisations. Also, you have to be the person who is paying for the child care. If your employer, for example, pays, you have to determine who is responsible for the cost.
