Child care in Perth or suburbs such as Wattle Grove can put a bit of a crimp on one’s budget, but many families are eligible for rebates from Centrelink. These rebates can cover half of your out of pocket child care expenses in addition to funds you receive from JET Child Care Fee Assistance and Child Care Benefit. Centrelink funds are subject to a per child, per year limit.
The child care centre must be approved by Child Care Benefit. You must also be eligible for Child Care Benefit, even in the case that your income is too high for you to receive payment. You and your partner also need to either be exempt from the Work, Training, Study test or you must fulfil its requirements.
Luckily, “Work, Training, Study requirements are only that you and your partner worked, studied or trained in any week you took your child to a child care centre.
Work, Training or Study Requirements
You satisfy the requirement for work if you engage in any self-employment or paid work. If you are spending time setting up a business or looking for work, it also counts. Voluntary work also counts if it is for the express purpose of improving your work skills. Any studying or training counts, too.
If you are doing voluntary work that is not helping you improve your work skills, you must volunteer for at least 15 hours per week. This can also be counted as 30 hours over a fortnight.
Other Ways of Fulfilling the Requirements
Some leave time also fulfils Work, Training, Study requirements: long-service leave, annual leave, sick leave, other paid leave, parental leave, paid or unpaid, up to 12 months or self-employment leave.
In addition, you will fulfil the Work, Training, Study requirement if you are receiving carer payment or carer allowance, on carer leave including carer sick leave or you are caring for a person who is on disability.
