At Cuddles Childcare Centre Carlisle, which serves Kewdale and other suburbs, we provide ample opportunities for your child to play. We do that not only because of the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF), but also because we fully believe in the concept of play-based learning. Our motto is “Learning Through Play” and we live and breathe it at all of our childcare centres.
Why Learning Through Play is So Successful
It has been proven that preschool aged children learn more through play than they do trying to memorise things. We love the concept because children don’t perceive it as “learning”; they perceive it as playing.
At preschool age, it isn’t really important for children to learn and memorise a lot of facts yet. It is more important that they learn and develop the skills that will help them in school later. Here are the main benefits for children who learn through play.
When children are playing with peers, they become more confident of themselves. They are playing with a group and they feel like they belong. They will need to see others as equals, especially as they get older. This confidence helps them learn and study when they are older. It also helps them get along better in school.
Develop Social Skills, Communication and Language
When children are playing with others, they have to cooperate. When playing, they learn how to communicate with each other through language. They also develop social skills such as cooperation and even persuasion. They are also learning sharing and working towards a common goal.
When they are role-playing or pretending, they are learning to use their imaginations and be creative.
Develop Motor Skills
When children play, they are developing fine motor skills. In sports, they are learning to move larger muscles in a coordinated effort.
