Cuddles Childcare Centre has served Belmont and other Perth suburbs long enough to learn a lot about children. We live and breathe child care and go to great lengths to ensure your child’s safety and growth.
We now have a baby room in each Cuddles Childcare Centre with a dedicated carer. While nobody can read body language as good as a mum who knows the tricks, we have become experts at reading the body language of babies. We would like to pass a little information about reading body language on to you.
If you have a baby, it’s no news to you that they figure out how to communicate to you pretty quickly. They will smile, laugh, cry and even scream to get their needs met. Most babies also start “speaking” with their bodies. They can do this by pointing or squirming for example. Here are some ways to “decode” your baby’s body language.
Pay Close Attention
You may notice that your baby squirms and wiggles when he or she is not comfortable. If you watch closely, they may be indicating the location of the pain or discomfort by the way they are moving. Your child might move his or her head a lot if the sun is in his or her eyes. Jerking the arms or legs suddenly may indicate being startled or scared.
Your baby also gives you cues when you are doing something that makes them feel calm, happy or safe. The obvious signs are smiling or relaxing. Watch how your child responds to you in every situation. If your child is smiling at you, always smile back. This will create a happy smile.
From simple body language, you can figure out whether your child is hungry, wide awake and ready to play, fussy, uncomfortable or ready to fall asleep. You just have to pay attention to learn it.
